In May 2022 I spent the entire month in the Outer Banks, with the last two weeks stationed right next to Avon Pier. Throughout these two weeks, we spent hours surfing and prone foiling the sandbar to the north of the pier right in front of our house. I was hoping we would get some South wind in order to kitesurf frontside in front of the house. On our last full day we had a strong S/SW forecast and I decided to downwind back to the house from Buxton even though the direction was side-offshore. The wind was a bit gusty riding downwind through Southern Avon behind rows of houses, but once I reached the pier the wind was much cleaner since there are no tall buildings nearby. I was able to make several laps through the surf break with Arlin Ladue flying his drone overhead. My 11m Ozone Enduro was the perfect tool for the job in 18-20 kts breeze, and shortly after we went to run two more downwinders that day flying 9m kites.
