I’ve been based in Newport, RI since I started kiting in 2016 and 2022 brought the windiest Summer I’ve experienced since getting into wind sports. July had at least 20 windy days above 18 kts and I was able to teach lessons 4+ days per week while having time left over to enjoy sunset sessions with friends. Wing foiling opened up the opportunity for more ocean sessions since it’s not subject to the kite-flying ban during the Summer at Second Beach. While avoiding the swim zone, I had some incredible wave winging sessions and it changed my perspective on what’s possible during the Summer locally. On July 5, Arlin Ladue drove down from Vermont to capture an evening of winging and kiteboarding at Second Beach.
